YOU are the key to your success.

Hey there TechDiva!

How exciting is it to be a part of such a wonderful organization?!?! My name is Jacquetta and I am currently a senior manager for Verizon who specializes in technical project management. I am leading a team of engineers who document what is required for new software enhancements for my company’s network maintenance system. When I chose to pursue my bachelor’s degree in computer science, I was one of a few African American girls making this decision. By the time I graduated from my HBCU, Jackson State University, my class had so few young ladies who finished in our field I wondered if this would ever change. I am elated that Black Girls Code is allowing this opportunity to expand your knowledge with other young ladies with similar interests as yourself along with the visibility of such talents. I would encourage you to continue with the course you are on and here are a few reasons as to why.

The world of technology and engineering is constantly changing and expanding the art of the possible. There is promise in being able to grow with such change. Though I have a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, I have chosen to get my Masters of Business Administration with a concentration in IT Management. This shows that you are able to blend business in with your technical skills so you can better yourself for any company you chose to work for. One thing is for certain, the need for strong engineers is not going anywhere anytime soon.

As a minority woman in this date and time, you are not proceeded with an industry flooded with women who look like you outwardly sitting at the top of their Fortune 500 company. You are the key to that change. Whether it is as the CEO of a large technology company or even the chief technology officer (CTO), you are being provided with the skills to break that barrier wide open across the world! I would encourage you to take full advantage of the opportunities being provided so you will be able to seamlessly meld into any environment and thrive with such an awesome set of skills.

I look forward to reading about the accomplishments you have made and the growth you have experienced through Black Girls Code while marking your footprints into the sand so other young ladies can follow. You are a leader, you are the master key to your future. YOU are the key to your success and Black Girls Code is showing you all of the doors available to open. Take care and know all of the women before you are cheering you on for your success!

Best Wishes,

Jacquetta
