STEM programs are the future.

My name is Cheryl and I have been in the Computer field for 40 years. My advice to you is to become financially independent. STEM programs are the future, and there will always be jobs there.
My parents divorced when I was little and I hated to see how my Mother struggled waiting to see if that alimony check would come each month. I told myself then that I would never have to depend on another person for my financial well-being. You are only in control of yourself, not others.
I’ve always enjoyed puzzles, finding out how things work, and doing for others. Programming met that interest. I enjoyed writing applications that would make a person’s life easier, for example, automating a college schedule during the registration process so no overlapping classes, or creating a Time and Attendance system that reduces paperwork and was used in the Toys R Us stores for 7 years. I felt a lot of pride in receiving appreciation from others.
There are so many resources online these days that learning the skills is not a big investment. Go for it and be a success for you!
