Never stop asking questions.
Hey there!
My name is Alocka and I am writing to you to tell you how you are important to STEM and some tips on how I got started and what I am doing today with Verizon. I was always curious about new technology. I grew up watching my mother's love for computers. She was a successful engineer for NASA. She actually helped put the security systems on space shuttles. Asking questions is always a positive interest. So find someone that is in a field of your interest and ask away.
I am currently an Analyst in operations, so I'm behind the scenes in suggesting how to fix things. Meaning, I analyze the product that I currently support to make sure if it needs to be fixed or updated. I also make sure to note how and recommend a fix or if there is a problem then I need to gather enough information for my higher backend teams to research a fix. My team plays a crucial part between front line agents and back end teams meaning; Engineering and Application Support. We are the middle person but the middle person is the key for identifying and relaying back the fixed issue. I’ve held a lot of different jobs here and being in operations has shown me how you are the key part to a customer loving their technology and any devices they have. I always get my hands on the devices I am supporting. That's also a great way to know your role if you have first hand knowledge in front of you.
I have been with Verizon over 20 years and have held several different positions. The one I love the most is fixing a problem. That seems to hold a huge smile on my face to know I learned how to fix something and show my team how they can as well. We here at Verizon are all team players but mostly we are a work family. So, in your career of choice, keep in mind to have a great work family and love what you do!!)
Best of Luck,
Sincerely,
Alocka
