Don’t be discouraged.
Hey there!
I’m so happy that you are interested in STEM subjects at such a young age. I am glad that there are programs around to further support your interest.
Tech is a space that many black girls who have become women are in today. As you move through education and begin your career, it’s important that you know that sometimes there may not be people who look like you in the room. I encourage you to take up space anyway, because you are building the groundwork for those who will come after you and you are deserving of your spot. When you feel alone, remember the other faces in this program with you and lean on each other for support.
There may be times when you are not included in the conversation or left out of the group, but don’t be discouraged. Build your own community and go where you are celebrated, encouraged, and supported and if there is no space, make one. You create your reality and that reality always includes you.
I wish you all the best that life has to offer. I look forward to hearing stories about all of you in the future! Always remember, black girl magic is REAL!
With joy,
Dominique C.
