We need YOU!
Hey there TechDiva!
My name is Amy. I work at Verizon and am so excited to see you are interested in a career in S.T.E.M.. This is such a growing area and offers lots of opportunities beyond what you might think of for engineering. Did you know that it is engineers and scientists who are creating the next new flavor of potato chips? It is people with degrees in engineering and technology designing the next great shoe, and at Verizon, and other Tech companies, coders and engineers building the next generation of wireless service, creating the next awesome app., latest game, and whatever else you can dream up.
What is super exciting is to see more women joining this field and especially more Black women. We need YOU! The more of YOU we have, the more female voices there are to lift up the great ideas of women. It is so important to have diversity of thought, perspective, background and ideas when solving problems. Bringing your voice to the table can help us to do a better job of solving problems and creating new products that reach a wider audience.
My advice to you is to not let anyone tell you that engineering, math and science are boring, or not for girls. They are the jobs of the future and YOU are our future. Seek out people who can help you explore STEM jobs in areas where you have interest. Take more math and science courses to help you prepare for college and get engaged with after school activities that explore STEM opportunities.
Above all else, know that those of us who have come before you, are here to help, we are cheering you on and willing to lend a helping hand to lift you up. We got your back!
