I am inspired as I write this letter knowing what an impact you will have on our future world and innovations yet to come. I am a leader in Verizon Network Operations and a proud father of 2 wonderful girls. I am here to tell you that there are so many amazing opportunities in STEM and we need you to show the world your amazing ideas.
With the change in the pace of technology, it is now more important than ever for black girls to break down the barriers and let your voices be heard. The best ideas come from collaboration, and collaboration means inclusion and diversity….diversity of culture, background, geography, and most importantly diversity of thought. Be Inquisitive! Challenge the norms! Bring your ideas to the table and know that anything is possible.
Don’t let change slow you down or make you hesitant to act. Embrace change, take risks, and know that no idea is a wrong idea. I want to encourage you to pursue a career in tech. During the pandemic, we saw women leave jobs in large numbers to care for their families and in other cases, we saw them leave corporate jobs because they may not have felt like there was a path forward for them. Know that there is a path. There are opportunities. And with the path our technology is moving,, the best is yet to come. That future includes you.
As you travel your journey in life, remember one thing….everything you need is inside of you!
