It’s a great field!

Congratulations on choosing such a fun field of work! My name is Rhonda. I’m a ‘tech nerd’. I’ve loved technology my entire life. It’s a great field! There are so many areas of opportunity to explore. There’s programming, development, design, hardware, software, project management, operations, sales, help desk, and so many more.
I’ve been in the industry since 1988. I’ve never been the best math student. English (although I hated English classes) was more my thing. I say this so you know you do not have to be a math wizard to go into STEM fields. Curiosity, tenacity and a desire to learn are your tools. Since I’m not good at math you may wonder what educational path I took. I majored in Business Administration & Computer Science. That way I was able to skip required engineering classes such as calculus…smile.
You will find that it is a male-dominated field, but don’t let that, or that fact that you’re a woman of color, hold you back. A great work ethic will take you where you want to go. You can hone those skills in school. See your class assignments as career projects.
