Don’t be afraid to fail.
Hey there!
My name is Dave and I have 26 years of experience in the tech industry. I want to provide you with a few tips and tricks to help you when studying and retaining the learning you will be exposed to throughout your STEM journey or honestly, any career or educational journey.
The biggest piece of advice is not be scared about going into STEM. We all have a habit of getting scared on things we do not understand or we get scared from an idea of how tough we think it will be. Every job or task can be learned. I have found that once you are in a career, you will look back and reflect that the journey was not as difficult as you once thought.
Here are some tips I have found useful.
Don’t be afraid to fail.
Always be open to ask for help. Do not be afraid for to ask for clarification or understanding. Others will have the same feeling, but will be too afraid. There are no bad questions.
Have a planned routine. Arrive to events, class and project early and be prepared.
Find mentors. Most people who are subject matter exerts like to share their knowledge. Seek out people who are willing to spend time sharing their experiences with you.
Be responsible, reliable, accountable and accessible.
Once you have reached your goal. Pay it forward and help those who need help.
In closing I wish you the best of luck in your journey.
You got this!
