Practice, practice, and practice.

Hey there!

My name is Sushanta. I work for Verizon in the Information Technology department. I work with computers and also I do coding in different computer languages for my work. I enjoy my work which is very important to me.

Hope your day is going well and staying safe. I am writing this letter to give you some study tips that I have used myself over the years and I am hoping that these tips will help you getting good grades in STEM courses and you become successful in a STEM career. Students pursuing a career in STEM gets more opportunities compared to other fields of studies. They also make more money than others. Lastly, they enjoy a higher job satisfaction.

Let's start with two questions and answers.

  1. What STEM stands for? Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

  2. Who is in charge of your career? You and only you.

My recommendation will be that you relate everything around you to STEM topics. You see it's raining today. How does it rain? You open faucet to fill your water jug. How is the water coming to the faucet? Be curious. Find answers by asking your older siblings or parents. But, better yet, look up in the internet browser by going to search site like google.com, yahoo.com, msn.com etc. Make sure you got the correct answer.

I am assuming that you are already associated with some community activities or you can join some. Volunteer to help out the treasurer of the association. Learn how to maintain income and expense for the association. Learn how to give a presentation giving the financial health of the association. This will teach you a very high level of mathematics while you are volunteering and having some fun too!

Try to figure out how do you learn best? It could be reading printed books, or reading pages on the computer or watching a video. Everyone learns differently. Pay attention and find yours best learning tool and do most of your learning using the medium which helps you to retain most.

There are many stem oriented clubs in middle and high schools. Join some of these clubs. You will learn easily from group activities. Of course, also enroll into STEM courses in your school. Try to use as many high tech devices that you can access in school labs. Make sure to attend, participate in science fairs and learn from all the projects that everyone else is presenting.

STEM is not hard. But, you have to be curious and always make sure that you are having fun while attending STEM courses. Practice, practice, and practice. Wish you a very successful career in STEM.

Love

Sushanta. Verizon.
