Hey there!
My name is Rob Ricci, and I am in Charleston, SC. I am a Lead Supervisor for Verizon and wanted to take some time to give words of encouragement and support around Black Girls Code’s mission. I think this is a wonderful mission to help change the face of our technology world! I feel it’s very important to have diversity and inclusion in all aspects of our society, so thank you all so much for being part of Black Girls Code! I feel I can maybe offer some tips around school and studies. In general with school, and especially College, be sure to explore different aspects of STEM…..find what really interests you and something that you are passionate about! Having that passion and drive around a particular topic makes such a big difference with your studies! School and studies can be overwhelming at times, so for me it was really important to have a ‘schedule’ around studies. Be sure to also schedule personal time/breaks, so you can recharge! Also, find some peers in your classes that you can meet with in study groups, as sometimes working with others of course you can get different perspectives/thoughts/ideas or strategies to make your studies effective! One final thought on not only schools and studies, but life in general: support and encouragement is so important in life, so if you are ever struggling don’t hesitate to reach out and let someone know as we all have been through our own struggles. Check in on your friends and family as well, others may not reach out themselves when they are struggling, so reach out, lend a hand or an ear, show love and support always. We never know how much a little love and kindness can make a difference in someone’s life!! Best of luck with your studies and hopefully future careers in STEM!
