You will have an awesome ride.

Hey there TechDiva!

I am Archana and I work at Verizon in the Global Technology Solutions team. I have been here for more than 20 years working in cutting edge technology and having a lot of fun.

When I was in school I did not imagine myself doing this work. I was good at Math and Science. My parents were very supportive and let me pursue what I wanted to do. My father was an engineer and since I looked up to him, I decided to take on engineering. I was the only girl in my class for 4 year during my undergrad. There were times when others included me and sometimes I did feel left out as they all lived in dorms together and I had to live in a girl’s dorm. Anyway, I survived and I am now very good friends with all of them.

Then, my first job was at a steel manufacturing plant which was again dominated by men. It felt important to go to the steel plant with my hard hat and boots. As a young college graduate, I knew a lot about coding which the men in the plant did not and I built a great relationship with them. They would show me how the steel was made and I would talk about how I could help with logging and building their schedules for making steel and maintaining their machines.

Fast forward to my current role, we have >30% women in tech and they are at an equal footing with men. With the world now needing technology in all aspects, I would like to encourage you to take studies and plan for a career in this space. I am sure you will have an awesome ride.

All the best,

Archana
