Evolve the industry in the future.

I have been in a male dominated field for my whole education and career and really my whole like (having three older brothers). Over time, what I have come to realize is that instead of trying to fit in and be like the men in my organization, I need to bring to the organization my unique skills. These are the skills that we also need from you. In preparing for this activity, we learned from the speakers that women of color are the most under-represented in tech fields. Think about how you can change that in your life-times.
Sometimes, if you see things that are of interest to you, you don’t have to wonder how they can be created and how someone can improve them. That someone can be you!
At Verizon, although, I have been here for close to 25 years, I have almost always moved jobs between 2-3 years (sometimes as little as 5 months). That is one of the great things about a company of this size – there is so much room for growth.
I hope that you stick with coding and I hope that you do it with the style and skills that are unique to you and to your life experiences. That is what will help to evolve the industry in the future!
