Don’t be intimidated by not seeing people like you in a room.

Hey there!

My name is Leon King.  I’m a Senior Manager of Systems Engineering with Verizon.  I’m an African American man in the technology industry.  My interest in the field started when I took a computer programming class in high school, Basic.  We used BASIC to create drawings on a computer screen using, what I didn't realize then, programming logic and control loops.  I did very well in this class and my teacher encouraged me to pursue a major in college.  I went on to major in Electrical Engineering specializing in hardware and computer engineering.   I attended an HBCU, North Carolina A&T State University.   I was nurtured here and was taught by some of the brightest minds in the field.  I was surrounded by some of the best students in the state and country.

If you really are interested in a career in technology, find your niche.  If you love what you do, you’ll be great.  Don’t be intimidated by not seeing people like you in a room.   Have the confidence in your own intelligence and skills.
