Keep exploring the various doors of opportunity.

Hey there!

I work as a Wireless Network Engineer. I have always had an interest in technology. I grew up in a household where my father was a computer engineer so I was exposed at a young age to circuit board, mother boards and cpus. My father encouraged us to learn computer programming too. Even though it was a hobby I eventually went to college to be a Historian. I enjoyed research and discovery so thought this career path suited me. My path did not lead me to anything directly related to history but the research skills helped me land positions that required critical thinking. Still in the back of my mind I thought about technology. I was always the go to person to fix issues and help my co-workers navigate their computers. Fast forward to present day. With the current economic environment, I was pushed to re-invent myself and decided to pursue education in Computer Science and completed a 2-year degree in both Computer Science and Information Technology since I had enough math credits. I was fortunate enough to go to a job fair and Verizon was recruiting. I was offered a position and have not looked back since. I eventually completed my master degree in Broadband and Networking. It was a 15-year journey. I say all this to tell you no matter how long it takes to get you going in a career path in STEM keep at it. You will find that there may be other pathways that will lead you into the career that is meant for you. Keep exploring the various doors of opportunity that will lead you there. Keep going you can do this.

Sincerely

Your sister in STEM
