My name is Khania Dawson, I am a Senior Manager in Verizon’s Corporate Finance organization and I work within the Enterprise Risk Management Team. My team and I work to make sure that we have proper controls or checks and balances in place to support the accuracy of Verizon’s financial statements.
My educational background is in Business; I obtained a Bachelors Degree in Economics and a Master’s Degree in Accounting, but wished that I had pursued my childhood passion which was to become a doctor. Nonetheless, I would like to congratulate you on your interest in pursing a career in STEM. I wish you the best of luck on your STEM journey and I am confident that with your dedication and commitment you will achieve your dreams. As you may know, diversity and inclusion has been and still is a challenge in our world today, but always remember to persevere no matter the challenge. If you believe it and give it your all you can achieve it regardless of the challenges you may face. Continue to learn as much as you can on the STEM area are you are most interested in. Also find professionals in that field whom you can talk to in order to obtain more insight in that field. Additionally, research opportunities such as summer programs, internships, etc. so that you can continue learning, growing and advancing in the field.
