Build strong relationships.
Hey there!
My name is Fernando H Greenwood. I’m a 25 year employee of Verizon Wireless. I noticed you are interested in coding/technology and that’s absolutely amazing! Right now, our world is moving to more of a technology focus in all things from the normal household appliances to even self-driving cars. This is looking to be not only profitable but a long lasting career path. You should be absolutely proud of yourself as you embark on this journey which can put you in the center of world changing advancements.
As a black man, it’s amazing to see our young sisters step out and become the future…lead and not follow. Blacks and females are not historically known to be in the forefront of technology. Here is a chance for you to make that a norm. Also, don’t count out attending an HBCU (as I am a proud alum of Jackson State University). The chance to be around people of your own grouping can give you the experience of a lifetime. I’m proud to be able to send you a few pieces of advise as you move forward.
First, stay focus! dont let the weight of your youth overcome your goal. You have a lot to give and it’s amazing that you have the opportunity to do just that. Secondly, make time for relaxation. You want to always approach those tough situations with a clear, relaxed and level head. Next, build a relationship with someone that’s in your path. I was always told that “birds of a feather flock together”. Surround yourself with likeminded people can give you that balance you need and you can lean from someone that may know something you may not have experienced, or even give you a different perspective. Lastly, Get a mentor. it’s important to have someone more advanced than you, that you trust. This person can give you valuable advise. They should be honest enough with you to tell you when you are wrong or right and help you continue on the path to an amazing future.
I’m glad that you are embarking on this journey and I’m sure you will do great things.
Sincerely ,
F.H. Greenwood
