Everything you do is a building block.
Hey There!
I am so proud of you for making the space and time to proactively develop yourself into an outstanding career. A STEM career is such a fulfilling experience. It’s like seeing your muscle grow after you consistently exercise - you might not always feel up to it but when you apply your discipline and you see the results - WOW!
I had the opportunity to live in very diverse areas of the country, between my childhood in Miami, FL to New Orleans, LA. I didn’t understand why my family needed to move and I fought tooth and nail every step of the way. What I look back on now though, is that it was such a true blessing into making me who I am today. The cultures I learned about, the friendships that blossomed actually helped me because within a STEM career, you will work with people from all walks of life. It’s incredible that I keep getting to practice my sense of community with individuals from all over the world! (And) Since I’ve had experience with different cultures, I have a knack for connecting with others. This is so important because the STEM culture requires constant practice of communication skills.
Do you think you are cut out for this? If you’re reading this, then you are. Anything you do in life requires curiosity and action. If you are curious about a topic and you take the action to learn about it, then you already have the mindset that will set you up for success. Build upon that. Everything you do is a building block. Remember to have a vision of what you expect to feel like when you accomplish something; but don’t get caught up in overwhelming yourself to get there. Everything is one step at a time, one bite at a time; and over time you will look back and see how far you have come. I enclose this with a positive energy for you to remain resilient, strong and able to surround yourself with the right team to collaborate with for your continued success.
Warmest regards,
Lilyan
