My name is Michelle. I currently work for Verizon in Technical Support. I studied communications at Howard University. I am very excited and proud to hear about this wonderful journey you all are a part of. Science, Technology and mathematic is a fast-growing field. The innovative ideas that you will share and the skills you are enhancing will open the door to many career opportunities in the future. I want you always remember that the sky is the limit.
Mae Jemison and African American women studied chemical engineering and Afro-Americans studies at Stanford University on a scholarship at age 16. Mae later went on to make history as the first African American woman in space. Marie Van Brittan Brown invented the first home security system. I share these examples with you to encourage you and remind you that you can and will do great things in the world of STEM If you study hard and dream big. Make sure when you are studying that you study by yourself and with others. Studying with others allows you to support each other, share ideas and best practices. Set goals for yourself and find a workspace with no distractions. Most important of all stay focused on your goals and dreams. I wish you much success!!
