It is wonderful for you young ladies to be the leaders and set examples of doing something amazing by taking the initiative to be part of something special. You are setting the standard for the younger generation which in fact, now makes you all role models. You should be very proud of yourselves and each other! As you guide through your journey you will find bringing innovation, problem solving, and critical thinking to the forefront will help all generations. During your journey the key is to stay on the path for success. There could be times when things aren’t going quite the way you thought it would go. You will find out by staying on the path for success you will become a stronger leader. The diversity and opportunities with choosing a career in STEM are unmatched. Believing in yourself will provide you with endless opportunities.
It is important to follow your dreams, be fearless, and proud. As I stated above your journey will make you role models for the younger generation. It is important you find a person for each of you to follow, read about, and look up to as a role model. This person is for each of you to find. A great example of a role model is Michelle Obama. She was the first African American first lady, focused on supporting military families while working on ending childhood obesity. She even planted a vegetable garden on the South Lawn of the White House to promote healthy eating. Understand our former First Lady faced obstacles, detours, and racial injustices. What set her apart was that she used them to push herself to stay on the path for success. Now is your time to become a leader. Each of you should do it for yourselves while at the same time realize you are blazing a path for those who come after you. Be sure to set goals for yourself one goal at a time and celebrate when accomplishing those goals while setting the bar higher during your journey. Best wishes on your journey!
