Hey there!
My name is Jay Matthey and I am an Associate Director of Network Operations for Verizon. My team is responsible for ensuring that our network is running smoothly for our Verizon FiOS customers! One thing that I have learned in my career is that Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math are all around you. I have always been interested in technology, but I never thought that it would be a career path for me. I spent my time in school trying to find ways to avoid numbers and data, whenever possible. As an adult, I realized how powerful these tools actually are. Understanding how to use data to analyze decisions and make the world around you better is like a puzzle. I find it be both challenging and rewarding to see the world through the scope of STEM!
If I could go back and give my younger self one piece of advice, it would be to get involved with STEM earlier! Approaching these subjects with an open mind can open up a world of possibilities. Careers in STEM fields are innovative and exciting. Getting involved in STEM is a great opportunity to have a big impact and do great things! I would highly recommend anyone who has an interest explore these fields to the fullest. Check for local programs at your library or school and find something that interests you!
